Policies
Thank you for choosing me as your sign language interpreter. I would like to take this opportunity to advise you of my professional policies. These policies follow the standards currently in use by sign language interpreters in the US.
My hourly rate is set at regional industry standard, with a two hour minimum booking. These rates may increase by $5/hour for work scheduled for late evenings, weekends, holidays and last minute assignments.
- Unless prearranged, all interpreting assignments are billed on the half hour.
- Mileage is billed at current federal standards
- If parking is not provided, the cost will be included in the invoice and a receipt will be provided.
- Cancellations require 48-hour notice to avoid billing.
All assignments that last two hours or longer require a qualified second (team) interpreter. This ensures a quality interpretation by preventing interpreter injury and fatigue.
- If there is no qualified team interpreter, the job will be considered cancelled with insufficient notice and regular billing rates apply. If the need for a team interpreter is not disclosed and the job takes place, industry standard is to charge double the hourly rate.
- Under special circumstances (to be evaluated on a case by case basis) jobs with an unqualified team may be accepted. In this situation rates will be billed at time and a half.
Invoices are emailed on the 15th and 30th of each month. Please remit payment within 30 days. Outstanding balances may be charged an additional 10% fee monthly.
As a member of the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, I adhere to their Code of Professional Conduct, which states:
- Interpreters adhere to standards of confidential communication.
- Interpreters possess the professional skills and knowledge required for the specific interpreting situation.
- Interpreters conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the specific interpreting situation.
- Interpreters demonstrate respect for consumers.
- Interpreters demonstrate respect for colleagues, interns, and students of the profession.
- Interpreters maintain ethical business practices.
- Interpreters engage in professional development.
Remote interpreting services are available.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding these policies or current hourly rates.
I look forward to working with you.
